A memorial ceremony was held at BUET’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in remembrance of Abrar Fahad, who was tragically killed by members of the BUET Chhatra League. The university’s new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. ABM Badruddoza, publicly apologized to Abrar’s father, acknowledging the institution’s failure to protect his son.
The event took place on Monday, October 7th, at the hall where Abrar once lived. During the ceremony, a foundation stone was laid for the ‘Abrar Fahad Memorial’ by the Vice-Chancellor.
In his speech, Dr. Badruddoza expressed heartfelt remorse, saying, “We failed to safeguard Abrar, and for that, I sincerely apologize to his family. May every household raise children like Abrar, fearless in speaking the truth and fighting for their country.”
He further promised swift action in collaboration with the Sher-e-Bangla Hall Alumni Association to complete the memorial by December.
The ceremony was attended by BUET’s Deans, department heads, staff, students, and alumni, all paying their respects to Abrar, whose legacy continues to inspire the nation. Today marks five years since his tragic death, but the demand for justice remains strong.
