Bangladesh Moon Lander Rover Team has been selected to participate in NASA’s renowned Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) 2025! This marks a historic achievement, as the team, made up entirely of high school students, is the only one from Bangladesh—and one of the youngest ever—to secure a place in this prestigious global event.
Competing against thousands of teams from around the world, this talented group surpassed many experienced participants to become one of only 72 selected teams globally, and just 7 from Asia/South Asia. The challenge? Design and build a human-powered rover capable of navigating the tough terrains of the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
Their journey started with a rigorous application process, which included a detailed 10-page research paper outlining their innovative rover design. The rover, crafted from lightweight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber, features advanced wheels and suspension, allowing it to handle difficult terrain with ease. Built entirely in their lab, this rover stands out for its unique engineering and forward-thinking design.
The team will compete in the Remote-Controlled Division at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, on April 11-12, 2025. This competition not only tests the rover’s design and performance but also highlights the team’s teamwork, safety management, and problem-solving skills.
Their participation is a proud moment for Bangladesh, shining a light on the country’s growing STEM talent and inspiring the next generation of innovators to reach for the stars.
