International Woman Master (WIM) Wadifa Ahmed of Bangladesh is set to represent the country in the prestigious FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025, scheduled to begin tomorrow in Batumi, Georgia.
Wadifa earned her place in this elite global event by clinching the Asian Zonal 3.2 Women’s Group Chess Championship held in Sri Lanka in March 2025. Her victory marked a significant milestone for Bangladeshi women’s chess and secured her direct qualification into the World Cup.
The tournament will feature 107 players competing in a knockout format, bringing together top female chess players from around the world.
In the first round, Wadifa will face a challenging opponent — French International Master and Women’s Grand Master Daoulyte-Cornetti Deimante. She will play two games, and to advance to the second round, she must win one game and draw the other.
Wadifa’s participation highlights Bangladesh’s growing presence in international chess, particularly in women’s categories.
