Bangladesh’s Tabtila Marium Megha has made her country proud by winning the gold award in the 2024 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, the world’s oldest international school writing contest. Competing in the junior category (under 14), Tabtila’s essay, “The Sound of the Sea,” impressed judges with its powerful take on environmental issues.
On September 25, she received an official email from the organisers congratulating her and attaching her award certificate. Tabtila is currently a Class 8 student at Viqarunnisa Noon School & College in Dhaka.
The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, founded in 1883, attracts thousands of young writers every year, giving them a platform to amplify their voices on important global topics like the environment, community, and inclusion. This year, Tabtila’s work stood out, earning her a place among the top winners.
With approximately 1,70,000 young people from over 5,000 schools across the Commonwealth participating in the past decade, this competition highlights the next generation of leaders and thinkers. Tabtila’s success is a bright moment for Bangladesh and an inspiration for young writers everywhere.
