In a significant initiative to promote coastal cleanliness, the Department of Environment organized a cleanup drive at Kuakata Beach. The campaign is part of broader efforts to clean the beaches of Saint Martin’s Island, Cox’s Bazar, and Kuakata.

Dipankar Bar, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, shared the details on Saturday (November 23). According to him, volunteers cleared 323 kilograms of plastic waste from a 6-kilometer stretch of Kuakata Beach. The collected waste included food wrappers, polythene bags, single-use plastics, bottles, cigarette packets, fishing nets, cosmetic items, and electronic waste.

Beyond removing waste, the campaign aimed to raise awareness among locals, businesses, and tourists about the importance of sustainable waste management.

The initiative saw active participation from key figures such as Ashiqur Rahman Sami from the Ministry of Environment, Mohammad Asaduzzaman from the Patuakhali Department of Environment, and 30 volunteers from Dhaka University and CEGIS.

This effort underscores the growing need for collective action in preserving Bangladesh’s beautiful coastlines.
