iOS 26’s Liquid Glass Design Sparks Meme Fest Over Windows Vista Similarities

Apple has unveiled iOS 26, a major update introducing a bold redesign and smarter experiences powered by Apple Intelligence. However, while the tech world admired the innovation, many netizens quickly took to social media to point out an unexpected similarity — the new “Liquid Glass” design has sparked comparisons to Microsoft’s Windows Vista, released in 2007.

The new design introduces a translucent, reflective visual style across icons, widgets, and system elements, aiming to make the iPhone experience more expressive and immersive. Apple describes it as “Liquid Glass,” offering depth and fluidity while maintaining iOS’s signature familiarity. Personalization features have also been enhanced on the Home Screen and Lock Screen, with new customization options.

But for many users, the visual refresh evoked nostalgia—and criticism.

“This looks like a 2025 version of Windows Vista,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), while others shared side-by-side comparisons between iOS 26 and Vista’s Aero Glass theme.

Beyond design, iOS 26 brings robust improvements to Phone, Messages, Maps, Wallet, and introduces Apple Games, a new app for managing and playing games. The update also deepens Apple Intelligence integration, enabling more personalized and efficient experiences across the system.

Despite the backlash over visual similarities, Apple’s Senior VP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, emphasized the update’s vision:

“iOS 26 shines with the gorgeous new design and meaningful improvements to the features users rely on every day.”

As iOS 26 heads toward public release, Apple may find itself navigating both user excitement and design déjà vu.
