Grameen Trust is taking a significant step into the education sector by establishing a new private university, ‘Grameen University,’ in the Uttara area of Dhaka. The initiative has already met key milestones and is awaiting final approval from the Ministry of Education.
According to the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, a recent on-site inspection was conducted by a delegation to evaluate the proposed permanent campus. The delegation engaged in discussions with the university’s Board of Trustees and toured the facilities to assess compliance with UGC regulations.
The proposed campus spans nearly 25 acres, significantly exceeding the UGC’s minimum requirement of one acre for private universities in Dhaka. The UGC will now submit a report to the Ministry of Education for final approval.
Grameen University is backed by a prominent leadership team, with Ashraful Hasan as the Chairman of the Grameen University Trust and Nobel Laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the founder of the trust.
Currently, Bangladesh has 115 UGC-approved private universities, with 106 operational and nine inactive. Grameen University is poised to become a noteworthy addition to the nation’s higher education landscape, prioritizing excellence and innovation in its academic offerings.
