Fatema Sorna, a former student of BRAC University, has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing admission to the world-renowned University of Oxford. She will pursue a Master’s degree in Radiobiology, supported by the IAEA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship.
Graduating in 2019 from the School of Pharmacy at BRAC University, Sorna was selected for the fellowship in November 2023. Her journey at Oxford began in October 2024. This highly competitive fellowship aims to empower women in nuclear science and technology, bridging gender gaps in global scientific research.
Sorna expressed her gratitude to BRAC University for the solid academic foundation and continuous support that played a pivotal role in her achievement. “The university’s guidance was instrumental in my journey,” she remarked.
The MSc in Radiobiology, a one-year intensive program, is tailored for professionals and researchers specializing in radiation oncology and radiobiology. Oxford University’s legacy, enriched with over 250,000 alumni, includes 120+ Olympic medalists, 26 Nobel laureates, and 30 global leaders.
As part of the fellowship, Sorna attended the International Women’s Day event in March 2024, held in Vienna, Austria, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The fellowship covers tuition fees, living expenses, and internship opportunities in nuclear-related fields. Recipients are selected based on academic background, geographical diversity, and other criteria.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship underscores the commitment to increasing women’s participation in nuclear sciences, fostering gender equality in science and technology worldwide.
