Italy-raised forward Fahamedul Islam had generated excitement after joining Bangladesh’s national football camp in Saudi Arabia. However, despite regular training, he was not included in the final squad. While Jamal Bhuiyan and his teammates returned to Bangladesh on Tuesday, Fahamedul took a different route—flying back to Italy.
Head coach Javier Cabrera had earlier expressed optimism about Fahamedul’s potential. However, when the Bangladesh squad landed in Dhaka at 9:30 AM today, Fahamedul was absent. Team manager Amer Khan confirmed to Bangla Tribune, “He has returned to Italy and won’t be rejoining the team for now. He has no injuries, but he is still young and not yet mature enough for the national team. The coach believes he needs more time. He may be considered for the U-23 squad in the future and gradually developed for the senior team.”
In response, Bangladesh Football Ultras and other fan groups have announced a protest this afternoon, demanding transparency regarding Fahamedul’s exclusion and calling for a stronger development system for young talents
