Facebook’s content moderation team has identified at least 2 lakh fake profiles linked to the Awami League, actively spreading propaganda against Bangladesh. These profiles repeatedly post identical comments to distort public perception and create unrest in the country.
This discovery follows previous actions by Facebook, which removed over 300 pages and profiles — including the Center for Research and Information (CRI) page — for spreading false narratives during Sheikh Hasina’s regime.
During the July protests, it was reported by Rumor Scanner that the Awami League spent approximately BDT 3 crore to boost propaganda content online. The coordinated bot activity now raises serious concerns about digital manipulation and its impact on Bangladesh’s political landscape.
Facebook authorities have informed about this large-scale network, emphasizing their commitment to curbing misinformation and preserving platform integrity.
