DU Shuts Doors to Non-University Vehicles for Campus Serenity

The Dhaka University (DU) administration has introduced strict restrictions on the entry of non-university vehicles into its campus, responding to long-standing demands from students. The measure aims to ensure a safer and more serene environment for the university community.

Under the new policy, external vehicles are prohibited from entering the campus on Fridays and Saturdays. “Security and Surveillance Boxes” have been installed at key entry points, and members of the proctorial team are actively enforcing the ban.

On Friday, all access points strictly adhered to the new rule, with no external vehicles allowed inside. Although traffic within the campus remained smooth, minor congestion was reported in surrounding areas during the evening. Emergency vehicles, however, were granted access upon proper verification.

DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed emphasized the administration’s commitment to safety, stating, “To ensure a safe campus, we are implementing this measure. We apologize for the initial inconvenience this may cause. Those with emergencies will be accommodated, but others without valid reasons will not be allowed.”

Students have widely praised the initiative, describing it as a timely and necessary step. Sarwar Jahan, a student from the Department of Persian Language and Literature, expressed his gratitude, noting, “The campus often feels chaotic during holidays with the influx of outsiders and vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents. This decision makes us feel prioritized.”

However, some outsiders voiced their frustration. Shahjalal Shahin, a private employee, shared his experience of being unable to enter the campus during a family outing. “I was unaware of the decision and faced inconvenience,” he said.

While the move has sparked mixed reactions, DU students are optimistic about its positive impact on campus life.
