BAT Bangladesh has announced the appointment of Prof Dr Melita Mehjabeen as its Independent Director following a board meeting held on November 12.

With a career spanning nearly two decades in academia, research, financial services, consulting, and board roles, Prof Mehjabeen brings unparalleled expertise and a unique perspective to the board.

A tenured faculty member at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, Prof Mehjabeen is celebrated for her engaging teaching style and dedication to professional development. She specializes in courses on finance, accounting, ethics, and leadership, while her research interests focus on corporate governance and sustainability.

Prof Mehjabeen earned her PhD from the University of Manchester, UK, with her dissertation highlighting CSR reporting practices in Bangladesh. Over the years, her work in sustainability has influenced impactful research and training initiatives with leading institutions.

Her career achievements extend beyond academia. She has served as an Independent Director and Chair of Audit and NRC Committees for multiple organizations, including Unilever Consumer Care Ltd and National Bank Ltd. Her previous roles at Citibank, NA, and BAT Bangladesh also underscore her corporate leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

In a statement about her new role, Prof Mehjabeen expressed her vision:
