OpenAI has launched a new beta feature in ChatGPT called Tasks, empowering users to schedule reminders and future actions seamlessly. Rolling out to Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers, this feature aims to make ChatGPT function more like a traditional digital assistant, combining its advanced language capabilities with practical scheduling tools.
With Tasks, users can request personalized reminders or actions—like a daily weather update, birthday alerts, or even a quick joke to share with kids before bedtime. The feature supports both one-time and recurring schedules.
To activate it, subscribers need to select “4o with scheduled tasks” in the model picker and input their requests. Tasks can also be managed through a dedicated section available via the web, where users can view, modify, or cancel tasks. Notifications for completed tasks will appear across web, desktop, and mobile platforms.
Currently, subscribers are limited to 10 active tasks at a time, and OpenAI has not disclosed plans to extend this feature to free users. This functionality marks a significant expansion in ChatGPT’s capabilities, transitioning it from a real-time chatbot to a reliable planning assistant.
The Tasks feature also hints at OpenAI’s larger ambitions, as reports suggest upcoming integrations with autonomous AI tools, like “Operator” and “Caterpillar,” designed to perform advanced functions such as analyzing data, navigating websites, and summarizing information.
While still in beta, the launch of Tasks is a strategic step towards monetizing AI infrastructure. However, questions remain about its reliability in time-sensitive situations. As OpenAI gathers user feedback, this feature could redefine how we use AI in daily life.
If you’re a paying subscriber, explore Tasks today and see how ChatGPT can assist you in staying organized.
