The third edition of the bKash-Bigganchinta Science Festival has officially commenced, aiming to foster curiosity, scientific thinking, and innovation among school students nationwide.
The event, jointly organized by bKash and the monthly science magazine Bigganchinta, was inaugurated at Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College. Over 120 schools from the Dhaka region participated, showcasing around 150 innovative projects, competing in science quizzes, and engaging in interactive discussions. A highlight of the opening ceremony was the appearance of robot “WALL.E,” which announced the start of the festival.
This year, the festival will expand beyond Dhaka, with divisional rounds to be held in Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Rangpur, and Sylhet, culminating in a national finale in the capital. The best-performing teams from the divisional rounds will qualify for the grand finale in Dhaka.
The Dhaka round recognized 17 outstanding science projects and awarded winners of both lower secondary and secondary quiz competitions. Notably, Rayin Al Raad, a class ten student of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, received recognition for his environment-focused mobile app project.
The festival also featured robotics exhibitions, science magic shows, stalls, and Q&A sessions with renowned scientists, writers, and academics. The opening ceremony was attended by eminent personalities, including computer scientist Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, bKash’s Chief External and Corporate Affairs Officer Major General Sheikh Md. Monirul Islam (retd.), Bigganchinta editor Abdul Quayum, writer Anisul Hoque, cartoonist Ahsan Habib, and former Bangladesh cricket captain Habibul Bashar.
Since its inception, the Biggan Utshob has drawn participation from over 20,000 students, with more than 600 science projects presented in earlier editions. The initiative continues to inspire Bangladesh’s youth to embrace scientific knowledge and prepare for a future shaped by technology and innovation.
