Bangladesh is preparing to operate its first electric train on the Dhaka–Chattogram route, marking a major milestone in the nation’s railway modernization efforts. The announcement follows a high-profile visit to China by Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, aimed at strengthening economic and infrastructural cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit, intensive discussions were held with Chinese officials to enhance collaboration in key sectors, particularly transportation. Railway Adviser Fayzul Kabir Khan played a key role in leading negotiations with Chinese railway authorities.
As part of the agreement, China will form a dedicated expert team to assist Bangladesh in operating and managing the new electric train system. Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed that this initiative represents a significant step forward in transforming the country’s transportation infrastructure.
The Dhaka–Chattogram route, one of the busiest and most important rail corridors in the country, has been chosen for the launch of electric train services, signaling a strong commitment to energy-efficient and high-speed rail connectivity.
